  Transportation Portals

Summary:

To be an e-business, you don't have to be on the Web, you just have to know how to use it. Both e-logistics and traditional logistics can benefit from online tools and services. Among the services available are transportation portals that offer shippers choices in services and capabilities – from pricing to shipping to label production to online reports and auditing.

This presentation overviews the benefits and (current) limitations of transportation portals by examining the offerings of three services.

A transportation portal is:

  • inherently Web-based,
  • offers multi-carrier rate shopping with sortable rate/service/time charts,
  • offers additional services,
  • provides some shipping capabilities,
  • provides for some level of integration with web-based and in-house systems.
